Illinois Residential Treatment & Behavioral-Health Abuse Claims

Residential treatment centers are supposed to be places of healing for young people with emotional, behavioral, and mental-health needs. According to a June 2024 U.S. Senate Finance Committee investigation, some facilities operated by large for-profit companies instead exposed children to abuse and neglect — the committee concluded that taxpayers were funding abuse in facilities meant to help children.
